About this course

⚠️ This course will be unavailable from April 30th 2024. Please ensure you complete the course materials before this date.

Druid's distributed design and optimized data storage format make it awesome for large-scale, massively parallel processing and storage. When systems based on this design have issues you need to flex your application monitoring muscle to tune and maintain them.

This training course walks you through the information goldmines that are Druid's logs – status messages, configuration information, dependency health indicators and so on – with pro-tips on how to leverage log file contents effectively for both real-time and long-term observability.

Who is this course for?

This course is essential for anyone who has a system operations role for Druid and for developers who are designing and monitoring on-going ingestion (e.g. INSERT) to Druid.  By the end of this course, you'll be able to:

  • Identify and locate Apache Druid's log files
  • Understand log messages
  • Use tools to help you scan and watch the log files
  • Configure the log files, their format, location, and retention

What's in the course?

This is a hands-on training course, which takes you beyond reference material in the documentation. Guided labs in a real installation of Apache Druid give you true experience of the kinds of logs that are essential for monitoring Druid. You'll walk through routes for solving problems and for taking observations of how your Druid deployment is working.

When you complete the course, you'll be issued a certificate that you can share publicly – and post to LinkedIn!

After the course introduction, you'll find several modules that cover:

  • The log files and what they are
  • Command-line methods for reading and hunting through the log files
  • The relationship between process flow and log files
  • Case studies
  • Setting up long-term storage of logs
  • Configuring retention policies for logs

You can return to the course as often as you like – even retaking the final certification exam to up that score!

What do I need?

Familiarity with Linux is helpful as you will make extensive use of command line tools.

Other than that, everything is browser-based, so there is no need to download or set up anything before you begin!  If you're interested in an in-person version of this course, reach out to Imply!
